Did you ever get the info you wanted about the MOC helping Blind Vets? My late father, Emmett G. Cherne, was a New Jersey state Commander of the VFW, national officer, and in the Cooties all my life. My three sisters and I grew up deeply ingrained in the VFW family of Post 2179, Middletown, New Jersey. I know their MOC were very active. I'd be grateful if you would let us know if you were able to get some updates on the Cooties. We still have Dad's old "uniform", and it is just beautiful! One f these was an annual picnic and dance sponsored by one of the Connecticut ffiliates of the military Order of the Cooties. They prepared lots of good ood, particularly their hamburgers, and corn-on-the-cob, (I once ate six ars of it at one of the Cootie Picnics), and they played some of the finest usic you ever heard to permit you to dance the night away. They're not a group you hear much about, but I know they're still round. Do any of you belong to the Cooties, and are you aware of any work hey've done on behalf of the blind? It would be great to learn more about his veterans organization and of any work they may have done on behalf of he nation's blind. Perhaps there would be new opportunities and the otential for joint projects that could be undertaken if we were to acquaint he Military Order of the Cooties with the NFB and it's message of hope and t's can-do philosophy. When I went to summer camp in the early 1970s one of the MOC Groups in Connecticut used to put on one hell of a picnic at Harkness Memorial State Park for the teen session. Their food and band were awesome! Please provide more information if you can.
