Eastern Standard Time Subj: VA?s Rule Establishes a Presumption of Service Connection for Diseases Associated with Exposure to Contaminants in the Water Supply at Camp Lejeune VA?s Rule Establishes a Presumption of Service Connection for Diseases Associated with Exposure to Contaminants in the Water Supply at Camp Lejeune VA to provide disability benefits for related diseases WASHINGTON ? The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has published regulations to establish presumptions for the service connection of eight diseases associated with exposure to contaminants in the water supply at Camp Lejeune, N.C. The presumption of service connection applies to active duty, reserve and National Guard members who served at Camp Lejeune for a minimum of 30 days (cumulative) between August 1, 1953 and December 31, 1987, and are diagnosed with any of the following conditions: ? adult leukemia ? aplastic anemia and other myelodysplastic syndromes ? bladder cancer ? kidney cancer ? liver cancer ? multiple myeloma ? non-Hodgkin?s lymphoma ? Parkinson?s disease ?We have a responsibility to take care of those who have served our Nation and have been exposed to harm as a result of that service,? said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert A. McDonald. ?Establishing a presumption for service at Camp Lejeune will make it easier for those Veterans to receive the care and benefits they earned.? Environmental health experts in VA?s Technical Workgroup conducted comprehensive reviews of scientific evidence, which included analysis and research done by the Department of Health and Human Service?s Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), the Environmental Protection Agency, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the National Toxicology Program, and the National Academies of Science. Veterans with 30 or more cumulative days of active duty service, at Camp Lejeune during the contamination period are already eligible for certain medical benefits, following passage of the Honoring America?s Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012. In the early 1980s, volatile organic compounds, trichloroethylene (TCE), a metal degreaser, and perchloroethylene (PCE), a dry cleaning agent, as well as benzene and vinyl chloride, were discovered in two on-base water supply systems at Camp Lejeune. The contaminated wells supplying the water systems were shut down in February 1985. The area included in this presumption is all of Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River, including satellite camps and housing areas. The rule will be effective either 60 days after publication in the Federal Register, or following conclusion of the 60-day Congressional Review, whichever is later. - See more at: http://www.va.gov/opa/pressrel/pressrelease.cfm?id=2853#sthash.aJNok6um.dpuf From MisterAdvocate at aol.com Mon Jan 23 20:45:31 2017 From: MisterAdvocate at aol.com (MisterAdvocate at aol.com) Date: Mon, 23 Jan 2017 15:45:31 -0500 Subject: [BlindVet-Talk] Missionaries For Blind Children Update from Dwight and Patty Message-ID: From: _Dwight at missionariesforbc.org_ (mailto:Dwight at missionariesforbc.org) Missionaries For Blind Children Update from Dwight and Patty Dear Friends and Family: Patty and I hope you are doing well! We hope that God is doing as many wonderful things in your life as He is in ours. We are praying for a wonderful year at Missionaries For Blind Children, and feeling God's will to do more for the world around us. We want to share with you our ongoing challenging ministry opportunity that God has continued pointing us to. From December 3, 2017 through December 9, 2017 we will be working at the Salvation Army School for the Blind in Kingston, Jamaica, making a difference in the lives of their Blind, Deaf Blind and multiplly Disabled Children. While God has again opened up a door for us to develop a greater heart of compassion for His disabled children at the Salvation Army School for the Blind, the exciting part is that you will be able to participate in this wonderful mission in several ways. First, you can help by praying for us and our fellow missionaries. We will need prayers that God will prepare us for our visit and bless our efforts as we minister to the blind children of Jamaica and the Caribbean. We will also need prayers that our financial needs will be met. At this time, we need to raise $7,000 to fund this year?s needs for the children and their facility. This is as always quite a challenge! Another way you can be involved is to help provide that financial support. Would you consider supporting us with a small donation? You can go to _www.gofundme.com/blindchildren_ (http://www.gofundme.com/blindchildren) and make an online donation. If you would prefer to send us a check, please make it out to MFBC/Dwight Sayer and mail to PO BOX 784957, Winter Garden, Fl. 34778. For tax deductible donations make checks to United Missions and mail to the same address. We will need to raise all our funds by November 20, 2017, in order to fund the projects needing attention at the school. Whether you feel led to contribute financially, through prayer, or both, all of your support is greatly appreciated. Please visit our web site at _www.missionariesforbc.org_ (http://www.missionariesforbc.org/) to learn more about this incredibly important mission. We look forward to doing God's work at the Salvation Army School for the Blind in Kingston, Jamaica and letting you know all about how God has worked through this team when we return. My Life Partner is a Veteran. I would like to write to the person in charge of the VA. I went to the VA website to find out how to contact the head of the VA. The website just got me into a loop and was not very accessible. Did anyone have the same problems with that website? I am very concerned about one issue my Partner is facing. The limit for the Means Test is 30 Thousand Dollars. I live in a very high rent and high cost area and feel the limit for the Means Test should be 50 Thousand Dollars. Does anyone have similar problems? Let me kno. Thank you.
