[blparent] rejecting foods

The only meat Austin would eat was a Gerber turkey and sweet potato mix.
Personally, I didn't sweat this too much; I figured as he got older he would
eat more meats, and I was right. Now he eats ham, turkey, salami, and
sometimes chicken. He still prefers fruits and veggies. His doctor said
this is fine because he really should be having something like 4-5 servings
of fruits and veggies a day, and only one serving of meat. Also, especially
for toddlers, the servings are averaged throughout the week. This is
because many toddlers go through very picky periods where they will hardly
eat, and then periods where they eat a lot. I would think that as long as
she's healthy, growing and gaining weight, and seems happy and alert, this
shouldn't be anything to lose sleep over. Also, depending on how old she is
and how many teeth she has you could always start trying small pieces of
ham, turkey, etc. Deli sandwich meat works well for this, but you could
always cook your own and just cut it very thin and small. Certainly check
with her pediatrician about this if you're worried, but I'm sure it will be
fine.
Hope this helps,
Melissa

Hi. I'm thankful that I have the moms and dads on this list to ask
questions of, since I don't really have my own mother available at this
time. My question is, how can I make meats more appealing to my baby? She
gobbles up all fruits and vegetables, cereals, and cheese. I buy the
organic baby food purees, but she won't touch the meats. Turkey, beef,
whatever, she just gags and cries and spits them out. I've tried a bite of
meat and a bite of vegetables, but she'll eat the veggies and reject the
meat. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jo Elizabeth
