A simple tape recorder purchased at Walmart works for talking books or books
on tape or a cheap cd player, they still have them. Smile!

Levelstar has something called the icon which is pretty cool.  It's around 
$1500 I think.  For something cheaper and that is more portable, I think 
some of the new i-pods have talking menus and you could get a docking 
station with speakers from best buy or something like that.
