My hubby just bought me a portable speaker that plugs right into my Victor
Stream.  Thus Gab and I have been listening to books together all summer.
In fact, we just finished Heidi.  Boy was it good.  We also read Anne of
Green Gables and are about to start Miracle on 34th street. V

Thank you for this. 
As for portable devices out there, what is there? Do they make MP3
players that are accessable and can you listen to them without a
headset? We're way behind the curve here on this.

I agree. Audible kids is great. You can search for award winning books,
and for books by age. There's some great dramatized stuff with music and
different actors playing different characters, etc.
