[blparent] boon squert spoon

Hi Kate,
My pediatrician said I didn't really need to encourage solids until 9
months, and even then to nurse more and wait till she was a year to give her
regular meals. Babies get the majority of their nutrition from breastmilk
or formula for the first year, and the only reason we feed them solids is so
they will learn how to eat it. So you can give solids occasionally, but
nurse her first if she's hungry, and use the solids as more of a supplement
or treat. This is what I did with Kaelyn and she is just now slowly weaning
at 21 months. You may not wish to nurse that long, but a year is the usual
goal I think. I did the same thing with Andralyn too and she nursed until
14 months. Some babies will choose to wean themselves earlier, and there
isn't a lot you can do about it as far as I know, but the solids really
aren't important yet.
Hope that helps.
Leanne
