[blparent] boon squert spoon

Hello Kate and list,
Austin started solids at 6 months and continued to nurse until he was 2. Here are the things I did to keep this relationship going.
First, I only fed him 1 solid meal a day. As he seemed to get more hungry I increased this. At first I would feed him the solids and, since it seemed as if most of them ended up on him, the floor, or me I would nurse him afterward. I always nursed him first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Also, he had a hard time sleeping through the night on and off, so I ended up nursing him some during the night as well; it was what he wanted, and it was the quickest and easiest way to get him back to sleep. And, I admit it, a special time for us to sit and snuggle, even if I didn't always appreciate being awoken. Oh, I always nursed before nap time as well, even if he'd just eaten a short time before. I think it helped that I was lucky enough to be home almost full time with him, so I was able to nurse him on demand. Also, if he was sick he always wanted to nurse more. Also, if he was tired, overwhelmed, or just wanted a little security he seemed to want it more. It's really funny because as I write this I'm realizing how many small details I've forgotten--like how often I used to nurse him and how often he'd have meals. I'm sure your peditrician can help a bit with this as well, as far as guiding you as to how many solid meals and snacks your baby should be getting at certain ages. Every child is different though; it might not matter what you do, some kids are probably just more ready to give up nursing earlier than others.
I hope some of this helps.
Melissa

Hi.

Thanks for the info.

Ash stopped nursing early and we think its because she became dependent on food too fast.

Does any one have tips for feeding a nursing baby of six months food in away that will keep the nursing relationship in tact?

Thanks
Kate
