The IPod will play more formats than the stream, but it will not play the
digital books you can download from NLS, brf files, txt files, or a few
other file types the Stream will play.  The IPod also has a hard drive built
in, where the Stream has a separate SD card for data storeage.  Both the
IPod and Stream play mp3 files.  The IPod will play content from ITunes
which is, I'm almost positive, not in mp3 format.  Both will play books from
Audible.  I have a Stream and love it.The Stream is a little over $300; it
is also a digital recorder, which I like because I can use it to record
Austin.  It does only have one small external speaker, but you can buy
speakers from an electronics store to plug into the stream.  It does play in
stereo, but not when you are using the external speaker.  I don't know as
much about the IPod.  I know you can get them now fairly cheaply.  I use my
Stream mostly for books from NLS.  I also have a separate SD card for music.
If you're looking mostly for something to listen to music and/or commercial
audio books, then the IPod is probably the way to go.  If you're looking for
something that will let you play NLS books and music then the Stream is the
way to go.  You can also play descriptive audio movies on the stream; I am
not sure if that file type is supported on the IPod.

Hmmm, will the IPOD play as many formats as the stream or will it play
different ones? 
What about an MP3 player? I can make cd's into mp3's, could I then play
them on an ipod? 
In terms of accessability, sounds like I want real cheap or real
expensive. 
That about right?

Hi,

Yes, but an ipod will play more formats then the stream will, and the
stream cost more then an ipod.  Plus, the stream will only play in mono,
doesn't have a very good speaker unless you buy one on top of what you
already pay for the stream itself, and doesn't have the versitility of
an ipod.
