[blparent] Gift Ideas

My daughter loves megablocks.
It's also a great way to figure out what's going on in their heads as
they talk about what they're building.
Basically, think of toys that allow the child to be creative. My rule is
the less verbal the better, save for toys that sing. Think of drawing,
puzzles, blocks, dolls, hats, things like that.
To Mike, I would stay away from video games. Little ones need to be
using their bodies. Also, some kids don't do well with screen time.
Finally, it is very difficult to know what a one-year-old likes. They
can't realy talk yet, and they are still babies in a lot of ways. At
least that was my experience. Last Christmas, my daughter spent more
time looking at my in-laws' cats then in caring about the presents or
anything else.

I wouldn't mind finding a ball that I could hear, but I don't want to
spend
a ton of money till Stephen gets past the stage where he has to throw
every
ball he finds on the roof.
Oh, another toy that Sarah really likes is her Mega blocks. They're
basically giant Legos, big enough that they won't fit into curious
toddler
mouths. If you don't mind spending half your waking hours picking up
the
blocks from everywhere in the house, they're another great idea.
