I'd actually like to do this. 
It looks like a lot of fun, and if you are healthy, there's no reason
why it isn't safe. You want to get very warm before you do it, and get
warm after you get out of the water. 
I've saunnaed and then jumped in the snow with no clothing on and you
really don't feel the cold. 
Lastly, you may think folks who do this are fools, but only if you also
think that their money is not as green as anybody else's, i.e. if you
don't like the activity, you don't get to accept the money generated by
it.

we have a version here called the polar bear plunge.  Its when a bunch
of fools raise money for a charity and jump into the freezing cold water
