Hi Jennifer,
I like your pre-planning. A few items we found helpful for our children
have been the "brainy baby" DVD that teaches both colors and shapes. Our
children just love this DVD and the material covers even more than the basic
colors and shapes. We also have the puzzles with the basic shapes that my
kids used when they were really small. The leap frog refrigerator letter
toy is great. You have a little box where you insert the letter and the box
identifies the letter for the child as well as sings a song that is very
fun. We also purchased floor puzzles of the alphabet which we brailed with
our labeler. The kids just love getting down on the floor to put the long
puzzle together. Also, Seedlings Children's Books has a book that I believe
is called "my first colors" which really got my son started.
I hope these ideas put your mind to ease. Just check in with this list and
I am sure there are so many different resources people can come up with to
help you.
