[blparent] Experience in the hospital

Hi,

I agree with all of these except for number five. I had troubles breast
feeding this time and the hospital told me not to give a bottle first. Try
latching her on the breast before giving her a bottle because you don't want
her thinking that just because she cries you'll give in and give her one.
The bottle is less work to eat from then a breast, and there's no let down
phase to wait through before getting food, so it seems like an easier option
to a baby. Do you have a breast pump? If so, try pumping a little before
feeding. This will cause your nipple to stand out and will also cause it to
already be stimulated before the baby tries to latch on. This way the baby
will not have to wait so long for food, and she may have an easier time
latching on if she can find the nipple easily. Feel free to get in touch
off list if you'd like. I can't promise I'll be any help, but I know what
you're going through because I'm going through it myself. Remember to keep
very calm when trying to feed Cloei. If she senses you're frustration
she'll get stressed and nothing's worse then a stressed out crying baby when
you're trying to work soemthing important out.

Tammy
