[blparent] baby monitor

I mean that at least with my monitor, I can hear what's going on, but
can't clearly hear spoken words like you would over a phone. I can if I
crank it up, but then get weird humming sounds.

Hello Rebecca and list,
What exactly do you mean about the monitor not transmitting human
speech?
Do you mean it isn't a two way means of communication--meaning you can
hear
what the baby is doing but the baby cannot hear you--or something else?
I'm
only asking because my monitor definitely transmitted speech to the
receiver
if my husband or myself was in the room with Austin and talked to him.
Also, as he began talking, it certainly transmitted his words to our
receiver. Perhaps you mean it won't transmit this to other receivers
close
by... Just curious, please explain.
Melissa

Yes. You'll hear the baby cry, cough everything. Note, though that it
does not transmit human speech, and it isn't designed to. You'll hear
what your kid is doing and you'll have to figure out what if anything to
do about it. I like my monitor as if it isn't on for whatever reason, I
am always thinking I'm hearing my kid. The wind could howl, and I'll
think it's my daughter, the dishwasher could beep and my head will make
me think it's my kid, the cat we don't have can meow and I'll think it's
my daughter. Being able to localize the sound source via the monitor
gives mea healthy reality check. Once you see a monitor work, you'll
instantly understand.
Know that they also make video monitors which will show the baby on a
screen. We don't have one, though again, if you've got a sighted partner
who needs/wants that piece of mind, then get it.
The stuff you buy for a baby has a lot to do with emotional and physical
comfort for mom and dad, and we all approach this differently.

Do you actually hear the sound of the baby'c rrying through the
receiver?
Is it like a little speaker?

I think mine is Fisher Price as well. I keep one receiver on my desk
downstairs and one beside my bed upstairs. You can shell out a lot of
money

for expensive monitors, but sound quality is really all that matters. I
do
recommend that you get one with at least a couple of channels you can
change

to, so that if one channel isn't coming in clearly, you can try another.
