[blparent] about rashes

Hi, Vanessa. Often if a baby has a rash, you'll feel little bumps or
roughness on the skin, and sometimes the skin will be warm to the touch.
What I've done with my baby is to put ointment or cream on her when I think
there might be a rash because of what I feel. If there isn't a rash, the
ointment won't do any harm. I know a number of sighted mothers, in fact,
who use ointment for their babies every so often as a preventative. If the
rash is severe or caused by yeast, you might have to get prescription
ointment from a doctor. Some rashes can also be caused by foods in the
mother's diet if she nurses, or by certain brands of diapers that a baby is
sensitive to. In that case, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of
cure, and you can help by avoiding the offending foods or trying different
diaper brands. Good luck.
