[blparent] Items you couldn't live without

when i first found out about savannah, i went insane. i made these lists of
anything and everything i wanted and thought i needed. it was literally 3
pages long in word.
then i took that list and separated it into must haves at the beginning. car
seat, 0 to 3 month clothes, socks, sleepers, bed, car seat cover, because
she was born in november, bottles, the head support for the car seat,
diapers, wipes, formula, burp rags, and my mind is drawing a blank on
anything else right now.
i then made a list of things i needed but not right away.
then there were my wants, such as the cute little duck that dispenses the
little bags to put dirty diapers in.

this is my own personal list, which i'm sure will vary from others. i didn't
want a bassinet. my mom didn't have one for me when i was a baby, so i
didn't think i needed one. i turned out to be right. i put the crib in my
room and savannah slept in it from day one. i did do a bit of co sleeping,
but it really didn't work for us, to be doing it on a regular basis. we
still co sleep from about 4am to 7am every morning.
i didn't get a changing table and am glad i didn't waste the money on it. i
have changing pads that are great. they will go anywhere. i can change
savannah on the living room floor if i so desire.
i did spend unnecessary money on a jumparoo. i just had to have it for
savannah. she did use it for a month or so, but that was it. she loved it at
first but then wanted nothing to do with it. so it's in the closet until i
can find a buyer for it. they are about 100 dollars brand new, so wasted
money indeed.
sorry this is a long jumbeld rambling. i'm too tired to make it organized,
so bare with me.
as for the beginning outfits, i did buy one newborn and was given one premie
outfit. savannah did wear both of them. but i just used 0-3 months from day
one for the most part. she spent most of her time in those little sleep
sacks and the one piece outfits that all look like jammies anyway. they were
a bit big at first but she grew into them very quickly and i saved money on
the fact that i didn't have 20 newborn outfits that she didn't even get a
chance to wear.
the play gym is a miracle maker. it was great for encouraging tummy time,
which savannah didn't care for. and it gave me a bit of needed free time
also. she would spend a half hour just laying there, kicking, and looking at
the toys. this was from about a month or maybe a bit younger.
if you have animals, i'd say a diaper genie is a must have. that or i just
have the world's sickest dog. no matter what, she always managed to find a
way to get a dirty diaper. now she can't.
if you are interested, i can see if i still have my insane lists. they would
give you an idea of what all is out there and a place to start, if it
wouldn't overwhelm you that is.
