See, for me, the swing was a lifesaver.  My baby slept in it for the first 
few months.  I borrowed the swing and passed it on when I was through with 
it.  If you do decide to purchase a swing, I would recommend that you 
consider a model that adjusts to swing either back and forth or from side to 
side.  My baby liked the side-to-side motion but not the back-and-forth 
motion ... go figure.
