She is lucky to have this list, when I was pregnant, I didn't know this list
existed or maybe it did. that was in 1999. I had to figure it out all by
myself. I love this list. Thanks guys for everything. V

I am reading these threads with interest. Vanessa sounds as if she is just
nervous and doesn't know what to expect.

Its ok though, I am sure she'll get the help she needs from those around her
and from this great list that I have found to be a great resource.

These questions are what any mother would wonder and maybe even ask but it
is more curious because we are blind parents and not to ask as if it is
different from sighted parents just wondering techniques is what I am sure
she is wondering most of all.

Hi Vanessa. I didn't know how to burp a baby till I had one, but it's
pretty easy. You just rest the baby against your chest and shoulder, facing

you, and then pat him on the back gently till he burps. You can also lay
him across your lap, tummy down, and pat him on the back, which seems to
help if he has a hard time letting the burp out.
I would urge you to think about signing up for the correspondence course
from Hadley School for the Blind, which Sharon Howerton, who is on this
list, teaches. If you start now, you'll learn about what to expect during
your pregnancy, and then the second course goes into a lot of baby care and
development.
I also found that a lot of my questions were answered by the book "What to
Expect When You're Expecting." The book is available on tape through the
National Library Service, and you can also find it in print at any
bookstore. There's a second book called "What to Expect the First Year"
which I also found helpful. The books are for any parents, blind or
sighted, but the correspondence course from Hadley also includes tips that
come from blind parents in particular.

You have a big task ahead of you, and a lot to learn, and I know it can seem

overwhelming. But really, most of the baby care things that I worried about

during my pregnancy, I got to where I was doing them without even stopping
to think about it. If you could be around other babies, maybe in a nursery
at your church or in the homes of friends and relatives, that might help you

feel more confident before your own little one is born. Good luck!
