My first child was delivered by planned c section, so I didn't experience
any of it. With my second I was in labor for a long time before his
heartrate went down and we had to go with a C section as well. With him, my
water never broke, but they did that at the hospital. As for contractions,
this was my experience. I was sleeping and woke with what I thought was gas
pain. Went back to sleep, and woke up again. I was mostly annoyed and kept
going back to sleep. After about 4 supposed gas attacks, lol, it finally
struck me that maybe I should be paying more attention. I started timing
the intervals and at that time it was about 8 minutes. They got more
intense and eventually it was obvious they weren't gas pains, but that's how
it felt for me at first. I think everyone has a different perception or
experience with contractions, though. Just pay attention if you have any
new pain that you haven't had before, and if it doesn't go away start timing
it. I went for over 24 hours with my contractions 7 or 8 minutes apart.
Finally, in the middle of the next night, they started getting much closer
together and more intense. Hth.
