[blparent] Car Seats?

Thank you to everyone for your responses so far! I did a little digging and was able to locate a user's manual through the manufacturer's website for the seat we're considering. In the manual it has installation instructions for installing the seat with and without the base! So that answers my questions right there! :) We will still be going back to a retail store to actually get our hands on the seat before we purchase it but it was great to see that installation is possible either way. I know that there isn't a law in our state stating that a seat MUST be installed in a base, it simply states that children must be secured in a car seat up to a certain weight/height. This has been an interesting discussion and I've enjoyed reading the posts so if anyone else has anything to add please feel free to do so!

Yes it is legal. If you are concerned, you can have the fire department go
through installation with you so you know you are installing it correctly.
If you buy a car seat brand new I don't think you're going to get a recalled
seat. Babies R Us pulls products off the shelf even if a recall is pending.
They won't sell a recalled product. There was a big recall on car seats
when I was shopping for my youngest and the lady who helped me look at
products told me that it is their store's guarantee.
