[blparent] questions

Dena's and Melissa's posts provided some great insights.
All hospitals want to make sure that each mom-baby set is okay
physically and emotionally upon discharge.
That being said, as Dena and Melissa say, if the nurse is grilling you
in a manner she would not grill anybody else, you need to tell her she
is inappropriate and you need to log it with her boss, your
doctor-midwife your peditritian and so on.
You can also ban him/her from your room if the questions are impeding
your ability to bond with your baby and learn what you need to learn.

Hello Leslie,
You may not know if the diaper is wet or poopy just by touching
the
outside of the diaper, but you will certainly know when you are changing
the
baby. As you wipe you will be able to feel if there is poop on his
bottom;
you can also always feel with your hand. The other thing is that often
the
poop comes out with some noises involved, so it is easy to use that as a
guide. Of course sometimes it's just gas, but you'll be able to tell by
checking with a wipe on the butt. I mostly breast fed, so unfortunately
I'm
not as sure about the bottle questions you have, but I'm sure others on
list
will be able to answer these. Good luck. Remember to take some deep
breaths; you are not alone. There are other blind parents here to help
give
you advice and support. Also, it's not fair for anyone to expect you to
have all the answers at this point; everything is entirely new to you.
I
know that you will figure things out as you go, but of course that is a
lot
harder when you have a nurse or someone else asking you tons of
questions
and probably wanting to make sure you can care for Michael adequately
when
he's released from the hospital. Which you can... Don't think for a
minute
you can't!
Hope this helps!
Melissa

Hi all. I have some questions. When you have a baby who's breast fed,
how
do you know whether he has a wet or poopie diaper? Is it something
that's
determined by feel and if so, how do you know the difference? I guess
the
poop doesn't smell from breast milk. The nurse I talked to today said
we'll
probably end up having to supplement with formula so I'll have to do
both
breast and bottle feeding. What's the best way to pour formula in the
bottle? Since Michaels a premie, I need to keep track of how many cc's
he's
taking in. The cc's can be determined in ounces too. How do you keep
track
of how much he's taking in without being able to see the measuring lines
on
the bottle? The nurse I worked with today has been asking me questions
I
don't know the answers to and it's kind of overwhelming. I figured the
best
thing would be to post on list and hopefully get some good ideas like I
always have.

Leslie
