[blparent] Carseats for children 1 year-old or older?

Hi.
My vote is for the carseat on top of the go-go kids thing.
We just researched booster seats, and yes, a child doesn't need the five
point harness once they are at 40 pounds, 38 inches and four years of
age. Still, it gave us the willies just looking at the seats that don't
offer the five point harness.
Also, the sit&stroll at least the kind I used to use did't provide
proper head support for a baby under six months.
I managed to break my sit&stroll so my daughter is now in a carseat that
converts to a booster. The brand is alpha Iomega. It is specced for
young infants too. It can't go on the go-go kids wheels, but is light
enough that I can carry it.

This is a great question. I don't know the answer to this one. It
would be
something to ask a pediatrician and/or other child expert in your state.
Would also be worth looking into your state laws. I'm not familiar with
booster seats yet, so I don't know if they have a five point harness or
not.
Please let us know what you find out.
Melissa

Hi Melissa,
The Graco MyRide65 holds a child from 5 to 65 lbs, and it is said to fit
in
the GoGo Kids Travel Mate, which is basicly a carseat base on wheels.
For us, it's a toss up between this option and the Sit N Stroll.
Most recommendations we see online have kids in 5-point harnesses until
65
lbs. So, we're wondering if at 40 lbs if a child can sit in a booster
seat
without this 5-point harness given the standard growth paterns of most
kids?
Thanks, and have a great day!

In Christ, Miranda

I completely agree about the Sit 'N' Stroll on all counts! We love
ours! We
also loved our Greco seat for smaller infants; it fit in our stroller,
and
also had a handle, so you could carry the baby in the seat in that
way...
Though I found this very heavy and akward so didn't do it that way too
often. I've never seen a carseat that goes up past 40 pounds, though
there
may be some out there. Usually after 40 pounds a child is tall enough
to
sit in a booster seat, and those are more portable in general. I'm just
hoping Austin is big enough to be in a booster seat by the time our new
baby
is in need of the Sit 'N' Stroll!

Miranda,
Not sure if anyone has answered this yet, but I have what is called a
sit 'n

stroll, which is a carseat that turns into a stroller. I pull it behind
me
as a stroller (it's tricky and takes practice, but it works fine for
us).
Then if I take a taxi or metro van I can convert it to a car seat and
strap
it in. It's very convenient. I would recommend it for older infants
though, as it sits very upright and tiny babies just don't sit well in
it.
I started out with a Graco seat and the frame carrier for a younger
infant.
Not sure how old the child will be when you adopt but just fyi. *smile*
I
would be happy to let you check out my sit 'n stroll some time. It's
pricey, but well worth the money.
Leanne
