[blparent] Tips on Baby/child proofing your home

R, you are right it is not up to me how anyone spends their money, thats why
this list gives opinions and that's all it is my opinion as it is yours. I
child proofed my house as I saw fit, taking away hazards that would hurt my
child as I am sure you did. Some people are not fortunate enough to have an
extra X amount of dollars to spend on specialists, some just have the public
library to get info. Some are fortunate enough to have this wonderful list
to get info, some are not. Also if you read my post I told her what I would
do, not that she was doing anything wrong. I put in locks that you could
squeeze which were much too hard for a 75 year old woman, I closed doors and
put in a deadbolt, I tied up strings and cords, I asked many questions of my
friends and they answered them, I put away all small items and I taught my
daughter what was acceptable to touch as I am sure you did as well.
Our house is a home, not a prison or jail. v

V,
It isn't up to you to say how people should spend their money.
Your insituations are offensive to me, partly because well, you weren't
around to provide advice when I needed it, and you weren't around to do
the grunt work of installing latches and whatnot.
Really, this is no different than any other industry. Most people take
childbirth classes, because we have very little experience with the
birth process. You I think are among them. I could make the case that
you "didn't need to spend your money", after all your grandma probably
didn't take a class, and anyway, there are plenty of books and other
women you can talk to. What you choose to spend money on isn't my
business. The poster asked for advice, and this is one of many options.
And, I'll say that we were in control of the process. They don't just
come in and take over your home, whoever pays them gets to own the
process, just like anything else
Please cool it with the judgment when you haven't the experience. It's
like talking with a guy about which is better, tampons or cotex.

Oh, in that case, you are right. The social workers need to see that
your
house is child proofed. My cousin adopted a toddler from Romania 11
years
ago and they too had to have their house extremely safe even though they
at
the time, did not know how old their baby would be. I'm sorry if I
sounded
harsh, I did not mean too. I was just trying to say, it was easier to
do as
you go along. But truly, I don't think you need to spend that money on
a
specialist, the list has given you the right answers. V

Hi Veronica,
I'm ~ot sure if you've seen this, but in previous messages I've posted
to
the list I explained that my husband and I are in the process of
adoption.
We will be adopting a child between the ages of 0-3 years old.
Therefore, we may need to child proof our home sooner than a parent who
has
a child naturally, as we don't yet know the age our child will be. This
is
why I am planning ahead.
Thanks for the info, and yes I am blessed to have this group! My husband
and
I truly appreciate all the great advice and resources you all have
provided
thus far!

In Christ, Miranda

Even if you had the money, don't waste it there. Just common sense is
needed. You don't need to do anythihg until your child is mobile, able
to
stand or crawl. Then a must is cover those outlets. You can buy outlet
covers just about anywhere and keep them covered unless you need that
spot.
Baby proof as your child grows. No glass that can break when grabbed, no
sharp things to play with, no little papers and toys to eat, no cords to
pull or chew. No curtains that they can tie around neck, no pictures to
fall off the wall on the heads.
Don't worry about it until you have to. V

Hi,
We're gathering information on what we can do to baby/childproof our
home.
We're looking for information for children between 0-3 years of age.
Since we don't have the $300.00 or more for a babyproofing expert to
come
and evaluate our home, we're wondering if any of you have any tips and
experiences of what does or doesn't work?
Thanks in advance, and have a great day!

In Christ, Miranda
