[blparent] he finally did it!

Hi Tammy. That's exactly what I do anyway. Yesterday morning was a perfect
example. He wouldn't latch on so I gave him the bottle instead. I figure
as long as he gets that breast milk, that's the most important thing. I
breastfeed about every other feeding now, or at least try to and it seems to
be working out well.

Hi,

Do not, under any circumstances follow the below advice. Sorry if I'm
stepping on toes here, i really don't mean to, but Michael is a premature
baby who can't afford to lose any weight, so feeding him from a bottle when
he won't take the breast is an absolute must. I took the advice of a la
leche league mother who told me I should not feed from a bottle and Remus
lost 12 ounces and had a thoroughly miserable week because I took said
advice. It was no big deal because he was 9 pounds, but I should have
followed my own instincts and not fallen for the nipple confusion argument.
Very few babies get it, and when they do, it's easily fixed. Don't stop
feeding that baby no matter what anybody says. If you can't breast feed one

feeding, pump until you can, and give him a bottle. It won't hurt and you
will be able to breast feed eventually. Even for a full term baby that
takes some time. In 2 or 3 months you'll wonder why you had trouble with
it. And, if you can't breast feed for some reason then you tried, and you
did the best for your son which is all any of us can do for our kids.

hth
