[blparent] question of feeding a newborn

I did it for the nine weeks my younger daughter was in an isolette after her
birth. But she was the third child, and I knew what I was doing. I expressed
by hand. I did not like the hand pumps, and electric ones had not been
invented or become common. I do think that doing it be hand strips better,
if you are careful.

Has anyone on the list been able to pump without actually breastfeeding, and

feed baby all breastmilk without supplementing formula? A breast pump
definitely doesn't pull out as much as a baby does while suckling. It seems

to me that the supply wouldn't be kept up as well. I think that was the
point. I know a lot of moms who pump while working, but breastfeed at home,

so it is possible, I think it just takes perseverance and patience to get
there.
