[blparent] any thoughts on potty training.

Lol, great story! And I think that was one of the main reasons I gave up on
Jaden when he showed little interest. I had another fairly young child, and
honestly it was just easier not to worry about trying to come up with all
kinds of creative ways to get him to sit on the potty. Despite some of our
fears, though, they eventually get it, and even if it takes a while it does
happen.

I honestly think it was me keeping Gab in diapers. They were convenient,
not to say I didn't encourage her to use the potty, but when she didn't want
to I didn't push the issue. My husband took his first sabaticle when she
turned 3 and he decided one day to go to the Aquarium. He told her she was
going to wear big girl panties and no more pull ups. We left the house with
just that- no pull ups. I was horrified, but not once did she have an
accident. Not that day anyway, but much later like 6 months later. That
was dad's fault, when they say I have to go, you take them now. (lol) V

All I can say is don't expect it to happen when you hope it will, lol. Ok,
I shouldn't say that, some kids train very easily. What I will say is the
process and timing is very very different for each child. My daughter would
have been completely trained just after she turned 2, but constipation
issues gave her trouble, and she stopped pooping on the potty altogether.
This problem persisted until she just turned four, at which point she
finally did it! My son had absolutely no interest, and if I pushed the issue
and had him sit on the potty he would sing, talk, look at books, then get up
and go in his pants, lol. Finally, exasperated, I gave up for a while, put
him back in diapers and went on with my life. One day, after he turned 3,
we were in a store and he told me he wanted the Diego potty. I told him no,
he had two potties at home, and he insisted. So, I'm not ashamed to say I
growled something about spending 20 bucks on another potty and if he didn't
use it, blab la bla. He informed me he would use it and I gave in. An hour
after we got home he told me he had to go, used it and was completely day
and night trained from that moment on. My point of telling you all this is
to say be patient, be very flexible, and go by the cues your child is
giving. Children have a way of letting you know when and even how to go
about it, and if you push too hard you'll have a battle of wills. Speaking
from my experiences with my daughter, you absolutely don't want to get into
a struggle over it. I think some have given you great websites with
articles, but we can help if you have more specific questions as you go
along I'm sure. Good luck.

Shannon,
www.babycenter has some really good articles on potty training, and there is
one article that is broken down into 10 easy steps. Good luck!
