Rebecca, you said yourself that band was required.

Nicky,
How exactly was band required? Nobody made me do it.
We were all told that if we didn't want to march and perform, we didn't have
to. And, I *wanted* to march. I was proud of what I did. I wanted to support
my bandmates.

I see your point. The difference is that your activity, "band," was
required. Soccor, for my son, isn't. It is an activity that we're hoping
will help the bad behavior in school. It just so happens that he's excited
about kicking a ball around while running. He has poor sportmanship due to
him being an only child. So we really don't know how this will turn out. He
has his first practice today, so we'll see.

Nicky.
I realize you will do as you will, but did want to suggest that you have an
activity that you do not pull your son out of because of bad behavior. For
me, this was band, an activity that I loved and that my whole family was
involved in. Band was not a privilege, it was something I was required to
do. I absolutely loved it and learned a whole lot from it. I say this,
because we all need activities we enjoy and I believe that those activities
need to be activities that happen outside of school.
I say this because you don't want your son to get the idea that he has no
value and get in with the wrong crowd. Having something he enjoys that
involve kids and adults he respects will do wonders for keeping him on the
right path. You don't want to take away the things and people he values
because all humans need to feel like they matter. If you take away something

he values, he will find another group and activity, one you probably won't
be too happy with.

Well, I contacted the school. Apparently too late because the deadline
for financial aid was like the week that I contacted them.

He has his first soccor practice tomorrow. So, we'll see how it goes. We
made a rule that if he doesn't come home with a good report, there will be
no internet game playing, and he loves the game, and if the bad reports
become steadily worse, then we take him out of soccor as well. He's excited
about soccor.

Next week is the meeting with the counselor. So, private schooling has been
temporarily put on hold.

You also need to figure out why private school would meet your son's needs.
Does the school offer something that the public school does not?
Just because you pay doesn't mean you or your son will get something that
bennifits him.

You need to contact the specific school in which you are interested.
