[blparent] knitting blankets for baby

Hi,

I'm using red heart baby clouds chunky wool in pink. They also make a green
colour I think, but since I had a girl, I wanted pink, everything pink.
smile And the blanket is now finished. It's soft and beautiful, just in
time to use in Ashlyn's new crib which will also get put up this week.

Tammy, what material are you using for that pink blanket you're finishing?

Hi,

All my kids have one or 2 knitted blankets that I made for them, I am
actually just finishing Ashlyn's and it should be fit to use next week.
It's the softest blanket I've ever made, and very very pink. lol

Huge help Tammy, thanks! I hope that I can get as good as you some day. I
was given several handmade blankets for Dawson's baby shower and they are
some of the most precious gifts I received that I can't wait to pass down to
him for his children as well.

Hi,

I tried loom knitting but I couldn't get the hang of it, so I just stick to
using 2 needles, and sometimes 3 depending on what I'm knitting. there's a
book by a blind man named Davey Hulson or something similar, called A Touch
of Yarn. I read the book after I learned how to knit, but I got alot from
it anyway. the book teaches you how to knit from the ground up, and has
sample projects and no pictures, so doesn't say things like see figure 2 or
similar. It's a great book, and I highly recommend it if you really want to
learn to knit.
My second resource is the BlindStitchers group on googlegroups. Davey is on
there as well, and when I needed help with something in his book he was the
one who answered my questions. Everyone else on there is really helpful as
well.
Knitting is fairly easy once you get the hang of it, but be patient at
first. it does take a bit to get going. Now I can do it in my sleep
practically, but it wasn't always like that. If you need help or you have
any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at tcl189 at rogers.com I'll
do my best to help you. Oh, and if you get the hang of loom knitting, maybe
you could help me learn to do it? smile

Hello list,

I'd love to hear from those of you who knit because I am wanting to learn
this trait so that I can eventually knit blankets and things for Dawson and
as gifts for friend's babies. I'd especially love to know what the most
blind friendly methods are because I really am new to this subject all
together. I've met some folks who are blind who do loom knitting and it
looks like a ton of fun and very user friendly for someone who's blind but I
don't know. I'm really only interested in making blankets so maybe there's
a better method for just doing this verses other pieces?

Thanks,

Erin
