[blparent] Question about parenting with blind children

Hello:

My parents encouraged me to touch things wherever we went. Of course, mother kept me out of the aisles with expensive glassware or away from displays of sharp knives. I would suggest a good strategy when visiting a home or other place that has interesting items to feel is to ask the person in charge for permission to "look" at the objects of interest. I've never had any problems in stores. If something is on a shelf, I look at it. My wife does caution me about glassware since some stores display glass precariously.
One time I was in a store that had a display of glass. A wooden base had a layer of glasses. On that layer was a sheet of glass held up by the glasses. On the sheet of glass was another layer of glasses, a sheet of glass and finally a top layer of glasses. We stayed well clear of that display.

Regards,

Robert
