One thing that also works is to give your child another book while you read
a different book. The other thing is give the child a few toys, but read and
show them the pictures. Reaching around the child to read also helps. Firmly
hold the book still and with time they learn to let you read. This is a
problem for parents who are sighted too.

That is too true Barbra.  I got a ton of books from Seedlings which is a
wonderful organization that makes print-Braille books for babies and
children.  It's a little tough right now to read to my 8 month old since he
wants to shake and chew on the book while I'm trying to keep the book still
to read the Braille.  What my husband and I do to remedy this is my husband
holds our son and I'll read the book and show him the pictures once I'm done
reading the page.  I have found that I can read to him on my own if my son's
in his play pen or doing tummy time and occupied some ware else other than
my arms.

Are you reading any print/braille books with him?  Maybe reading to him from
your Pac Mate needs to be reserved for naptime or bedtime when you'd rather
he lay down and not be engaged in the reading process but during playtime
look at books together that he can appreciate also.

Guess I read stories too much from the Pac Mate, too.

Hi all.  Since Michael's more mobile, he likes to get into everything and I
used to be able to read to him from my Pac Mate without a problem.  Now,
he's constantly trying to push buttons on my Pac Mate or my laptop when I'm
using them.  I figured out how to lock the keyboard on my Pac Mate so he
won't screw anything up.  Is there an effective way to minimize or stop this
behavior?  One thing I've tried is this: when I'm reading and he comes up to
my Pac Mate, I stop reading and I turn my face in another direction so I'm
not looking in his direction.  When he leaves my Pac Mate alone and goes off
to play with something else, I start reading again.  I'm sure this is
probably a phase that we just have to get through so any help would be
greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
