I had no idea about the packets.  I will have to look in to that! I used to
use the pre-made bottles since we didn't use it often and have now switched
to powder.

I use Dr. Brown's bottles and can feel the lip on the inside of the bottle.
Once the water is on the line, I add one or two Enfamil packets. One packet
is for 4 ounce bottles  and two packets are for 8 ounce bottles. It costs a
little more for the measured packets but it's quick and easy. That's a
blessing a three o'clock in the morning when my son is starving and upset.
He's older now so his night feeding is less frequent but those newborns need
to eat when they are hungry.

Really bad things can happen if the power to water ratio is not correct. Too
much water and the baby doesn't get the nutrients from the formula, too
little and they don't get the fluids they need. 
I used the blender because it is a machine and can mix way better then I
can. My kid never met a bottle she didn't like so I wasn't worried about
having to throw anything out. 
So yes, you do need to get the ratio correct. You also need to have water
that is drinkable. Don't laugh, this isn't as easy as it may sound. My folks
are ona well and their water gives a lot of us, myself included the runs. 
I'd talk with the mom and see what she suggests. She may prefer to bring
premade bottles, she may tell you it's fine to use powder, she may have you
use the canned formula. 
Lots of options here.

You answered my question, I didn't see this message before.  Do you think it

makes any difference if you are slightly off with the measurement of formula

and water?  I mean, could it cause any problems for baby's digestion if 
maybe you go a little over on the amount of formula?
I'm starting a new day care job this summer, and don't know yet if baby will

be breastfed, as she isn't born yet.  So I want to be prepared if I have to 
measure out formula for her.
