That definitely sounds like a better idea.

Jill,
Treat t his like a business need. If you needed or wanted someone to clean
your house, you'd find someone to do that. Same deal with driving.
I suspect there are tax reasons why you can't pay for the schoolbus to swing
by and pick your son up. I think the schoolbus funds come out of public
funds and you paying for it would be private funds It may even be considered
a bribe, though I'm not sure. It'd be like handing a police officer cash v.
paying a ticket via the channels already in place.
I'd also look outside of friends, friends are great to hang out with, but
you don't need a friend in this situation.
View this as business not "helping" and you'll probably do better.

I'm plenty aware this is part of my reason to move. The transportation here
is horrible!

That's great. They don't always do that.

Tiana, I am fascinated that your paratransit provider would give you a
subscription for your son. Transportation is such an issue espescially for
younger kids. When my oldest started preschool, I got involved in scool
activities so could try to work out transportation. It's hard enough to get
to know people when you're blind but when you work full-time as well, it's
more complicated. I paid a neighbor to take my oldest and then the problem
was getting him to daycare mid-day as that was how preschool was scheduled.
It is definitely a worry; best to you young moms or I should say moms with
young kids! I met a lot of people through the volunteer activities I did at
the school and then there was sports. So I offered to help the coach with
phone calls and thus met some of the parents. Basketball was harder as
traveled more. It was not always easy but worked out as I knew parents from
the school.
