[blparent] kid appropriate music

Our favorites around here are Steve Weeks, Billy Jonas, and the kids albums
by Ellis Paul. Elizabeth Mitchell is also wonderful. We are lucky enough
to be able to afford XM Radio, and there is a fantastic kids station on XM
on chanel 78. It's called Kids Place Live, and they play tons of great
music that is not (usually) annoying to parents. We've discovered artists
that way. Also, if you have an iPhone, you can get Pandora for free and
they have children's stations you can create and/or customize. School House
Rock is fun music that teaches math, science, grammar, and history lessons.
You can even get School House Rock on DVD so your kids can watch the
cartoons that go with each song. It will probably be a little harder to
find music your 13-year-old won't think of as too babyish... Perhaps
picking music you enjoyed as a teen would be a good start, and then making
sure he shares music with you he either likes, or kids are talking
about/listening to at school might be a way to start some good discussions
about what you feel is appropriate for him to listen to. Or, you might find
that you actually like some of the artists he can introduce you to, which
would be a fantastic bonus.
Good luck!
Melissa

check out the kids albums by tom chapin...not his adult stuff but his kids
albums. he is the brother of the late great harry chapin. they are
fantastic.

also check out Red Grammer. great for toddlers. both also reflect really
good messages for kids.
