[blparent] looking for very powerful vacuum any recommendations?

We use the iRobot Rumba. It isn't high powered, but it picks everything up
just fine. We have wood floors in the kitchen and living room, then carpet
in the bedrooms and we use it all through the house. I usually use a broom
to sweep things out from the edges because it doesn't do the edges as well
as I would like, but then I move the chairs out of the way and turn it on
and let it do it's thing. It saves me a lot of time vacuuming by hand.
Then I mop after it's done running. My floors are always super clean.
Just a thought for you if you don't want to crawl around with a hose. :) Oh
and you can clean it out easily if it picks up something it shouldn't, which
is a plus. :)

Hello:

If you want a quieter shop vac, I suggest you try a Fein (note
spelling) vacuum. These units are heavy duty and often used in commercial
establishments. You can buy Fein vacuums on Ebay and Amazon.com. Note that
you must buy the attachments separately. When we lived in Louisiana, I had a
Fein vacuum for use with a milling machine. It was certainly much quieter
than most shop vacs. When we needed to clean up the hard floors in the
house, we grabbed the Fein, and it with its two inch hose made short work of
housework. Plan on spending about $400 for a new unit and attachments.

Regards,

Robert

I find the noise to just be a bit disorienting, and it is so loud one can't
hear the phone ring, or someone knocking, and sometimes I need to use it
with children around and want to be able to hear more than a very loud cry.
Shop vac on wood floor equals extra loud! Thanks I'll check this brand out.
Amazon often has good deals and I've been looking.

Try Orek. They can be pricey but they do have good deals.
I like your shop vac idea. Why does the loudness bother you?

Hi, OK so I figure I'm not the only one hating wood floors and loving them
at the same time. I am a horrible sweeper yes I can do it, but the effort to
make it look at all good is just not worth it, but I'm crazy about having
clean floors to the point that after meals I will get down on the floor and
hand sweep and mop the floor around where the kids ate. I much prefer to
vacuum. One of my friends uses a shop vac with a floor attachment and it
works very well I've used, but it is very loud. My regular upright vacuum
does great assuming I don't need to vacuum up anything but dust and a tiny
bit of crumbs. Because it is wood and you can't use the rotating bar often
things just get pushed around or blown behind the vacuum. So I'm wondering
if any of you know of a high powered vacuum that would pick up cereal and
things that aren't just crumbs that isn't super super expensive.

Thanks!

Bran
