I know what you're saying about carpet being dirty, it's gross and that's
mostly what we have in our new place. I love the feel of it but I don't
even want to know about what the fibers are holding deep down inside. I had
a friend who did commercial carpet cleaning and replacement for a living and
he told me that if we knew what he knows about what carpet holds, no one
would ever have it in their homes. Grin This is a big reason I have a steam
cleaner in addition to the vacuum so that I can disinfect in addition to
vacuuming when there's a spot I'm concerned about or for high traffic areas.

Yes I use a swiffer, and it is great for touch up work. The problem is I
have all hard wood floors and I can't believe the dirt that must sink into
carpet after seeing how dirty hard wood gets. I've just found this little
vacuum on Amazon called the and I'm strongly considering it. I'm going to
compare it to shop vacs, the sharks seem to be out of my price range. I'm a
super clean freak and never want the parents of the kids I watch to think my
house is dirty in any way.
Thanks for all your help.

Yes, it's called a Labrador and you never have to change the filter!! GRIN
Okay, kidding aside my Shark that I got last year at Bed Bath and Beyond
works well for that type of thing and I got the kind with the detachable
canister vac so I can go places a normal vacuum can't fit. I can't remember
the exact title of the Shark but it's the purple one and I paid $160 plus I
got an additional 20% off of that with a coupon. We named her Harriet since
hare is what she usually picks up more than anything! LOL
Also, I don't know if you have a Swiffer Sweeper but I absolutely love mine
and it does a pretty darn good job at picking things up with that
micro-fiber cloth. There's no turning anything on so the noise is never an
issue and the mop cloths work pretty good as well. I will put down a little
bit of liquid cleaner of some kind in addition to the wet mop cloth if I'm
going to mop an area that is a little larger.

Hi, OK so I figure I'm not the only one hating wood floors and loving them
at the same time. I am a horrible sweeper yes I can do it, but the effort to
make it look at all good is just not worth it, but I'm crazy about having
clean floors to the point that after meals I will get down on the floor and
hand sweep and mop the floor around where the kids ate. I much prefer to
vacuum. One of my friends uses a shop vac with a floor attachment and it
works very well I've used, but it is very loud. My regular upright vacuum
does great assuming I don't need to vacuum up anything but dust and a tiny
bit of crumbs. Because it is wood and you can't use the rotating bar often
things just get pushed around or blown behind the vacuum. So I'm wondering
if any of you know of a high powered vacuum that would pick up cereal and
things that aren't just crumbs that isn't super super expensive.
Thanks!
