Rumba didn't work so well for us. It was fun to watch but it didn't handle
floors that needed a hard vacuum well.
This was a few years back so maybe it's changed. I wouldn't recommend this
for a family with kids though.

You are a Tech guy.  How about the Rumba, or however it is spelled, the
automated robotic vacuum cleaner.  You could let it run a lot, keeping the
place clean.

I also read about one for bare floors in the past couple days, either in the
NY Times or Wall Street Journal 0-- don't remember which.
