[blparent] Baby names

Thanks for asking--I love talking about Oriana's name. It actually means
"dawning or rising" and she was born in the morning, right about the time of
sunrise, which was a really cool extra special bonus. My husband originally
heard the name in high school and always thought it was beautiful. So, when
we started dating, and then started getting more serious, we were talking
about children and he said he always wanted a daughter named Oriana. I told
him I loved the name, especially since it's not very common, so that's what
we named our first daughter.
It's funny because I always swore that I'd only call her by her full
name, or by Ana. I thought Ori just didn't have a nice ring to it... Well,
then she went to day care one day a week, and I'm not sure how it got
started, but Austin came home calling her "Ori Borey Guacaholy." The
nickname stuck, but it's rather long, so now we call her Ori most of the
time.
We really want Elizabeth if we have a girl this time, so I'm going
to have to worn the day care ahead of time... I do NOT want a Liz or a
Lizzie... I just don't like those names. I want either an Elizabeth or a
Beth... We'll see if that lasts!

Melissa,
I must tell you I love the name Oriana. It has such a nice ring. Do you call
her by her full name or does she have a nickname? Does her name have a
specific meaning?

We have decided on Ethan for a boy or Elizabeth for a girl. Our other two
children are Austin and Oriana, which, of course, are favorite names of
ours. It's nice that the two of you like so many of the same names. We
have had quite the hard time agreeing--except for Oriana, who we had named
even before we were married. Smile.

Hi, Bernadetta. I'm so glad you have a healthy baby boy. You're right, in
the end, a healthy baby is all that matters. My labor and delivery didn't
go as planned, either, but I have a little girl who turned four last month,
and she's the best surprise that ever happened to me. I live in Colorado
and work from home as a braille proofreader.

By the way, I really like your name. "Bernadette" means "brave as a bear"
In french, so I guess Bernadetta is a derivitave. I considered giving my
daughter the name Bernadette just because I liked the meaning so much.

Jo Elizabeth
