[blparent] two completely unrelated questions

Hi, Jen. Since your younger daughter is only three months old now, she
won't be walking well or too heavy for a carrier for a good while. Your
older daughter will probably outgrow the need for the harness before your
younger one grows into it. My little girl is four and a half now, and we
gave away the harnesses about a year ago. She stays with me very well, and
I only insist on holding hands in a parking lot or while crossing the
street. By the time your younger daughter is walking well, you'll probably
be able to hold her hand and just instruct your older girl to stay near you,
and grab on when crossing streets. Likely as not, she'll feel very
responsible and grown up if you let her help you look after the little one
and keep her from straying too far from you.

What trouble have you run into on the Toys R Us, Babies R Us site? I've
ordered from there several times, and I might be able to help. My first
advice, though, would be to try Target.com and see if the same item you want
is available there, because the site is extremely accessible and the prices
are better. Feel free to write to me at jopinto at msn.com if I can help you
with ordering.

Subject: [blparent] two completely unrelated questions

Hi, fellow blind parents.

I love this list and I'm sorry that I ask more questions than
contribute help. I'll try to do better with that. Anyway, here are my
latest two questions:

1. What are some good suggestions for getting around with two small
children and a guide dog. My daughter Abigail will be three in October
and I currently do well with her in a baby harness. She's such a good
sport about it that she actually hands me the end I'm supposed to hold
if I don't get it quickly enough for her and says "Hold this, Mommy."
My other daughter Tara is three months old and I have her in a front
carrier when I go anywhere with both of them and the dog and we're
walking. What should I do when they can both walk, if I'm the only one
taking them somewhere, such as to the park or anywhere we might want
to go, for that matter? What should we do to get around safely like
that?
2. If anyone's had experience ordering from the ToysRUs/BabiesRUs
websites, please let me know how accessible you found them. I just
tried to order some things today and ran into difficulties, but if I'm
missing something that would make it easier, I'll try this again.

Thanks very much.

Jen
