[blparent] Rude people and now unschooling too

Rhonda, I hope you don't feel that my message was rude, since the way I saw
it, we had resolved our differences. I think your quotes would be more
effective delivered one at a time, and changed frequently. It's difficult
to take so many in at once. But your signature is your business. Now that
your replies are at the top, I can just read the messages and skip the
signature quotes altogether.

As for unschooling, I'm really interested in how one would go about doing
it. Some things tend to lend themselves to play-based learning. For
example, Sarah and I have gone on math picnics, where we practiced addition
and subtraction as we ate finger foods. We've acted out Little Red Riding
Hood and the Three Little Pigs, and talked about alternate endings. We've
done some craft projects, although crafts aren't exactly my forte. But I'm
interested to know how you would be able to teach to the satisfaction of
your state requirements. Kids have to be tested periodically, right? I'm
not saying it can't be done, or trying to get anybody devensive. I really
am curious.

Rhonda, perhaps you could clarify about which messages you found to be rude?
I will admit that I did hit reply to one of your earlier messages with the
intent to tell you that as an American I would be exercising my right not to
scroll through so many messages to get to the actual message as my time on
line is limited. I did not send it as I decided to check the messages that
others had sent and discovered you needed some help with your email
settings. I do not recall anything that seemed rude, but perceptions may
vary, and I may have missed something.

Your quotes are very interesting, but who are they for? I agree with the
ones I actually read, but even so I scrolled through the majority. You might
find it more effective to share your message with only one quote at a time.
You may, of course, do as you like.

I think you might have an interesting view point to bring to the list. I do
not expect that we will regularly agree with each others decisions, but
based on your quotes, I would assume you would appreciate those differences
and the discussions they may provoke.

I would also like to know more about your views on unschooling. From my
understanding of that methodology, I am unclear as to the reason you
identify yourself as beginning pre-k. I have for various reasons home
schooled and made use of the public school system, and am always interested
in various educational philosophies.

All I asked was a question on how to change settings, etc, not expecting
rude responses from certain people.
It doesn't bother me that certain people don't read my messages because
of my quotes.
I have rights to have what I please as my signature.
This is why I try to stay away from Blind Parenting groups, etc, and I
only joined this one because a friend asked me to do so.
I don't even think I'm on the blind home schooler group anymore due to
rude people...and I'm not sure if I would be staying on this one for the
same reasons.

The aim of totalitarian education has never been to instill convictions but

The battle for humankind's future must be won in the public schools by
teachers who correctly perceive their role as proselytizers of a new faith:
a religion of humanity. The classroom must and will become an arena of
conflict between the old & the new, the rotting corpse of Christianity with
all its adjacent evils & misery, and the new faith.

The plain fact is that education is itself a form of propaganda - a
deliberate scheme to outfit the pupil, not with the capacity to weigh ideas,
but with a simple appetite for gulping ideas ready-made. The aim is to make
'good' citizens, which is to say, docile and uninquisitive citizens.
~ H. L. Mencken

You are in the process of being indoctrinated. We have not yet evolved a
system of education that is not a system of indoctrination. We are sorry,
but it is the best we can do. What you are being taught here is an amalgam
of current prejudice and the choices of this particular culture. The
slightest look at history will show how impermanent these must be. You are
being taught by people who have been able to accommodate themselves to a
regime of thought laid down by their predecessors. It is a self-perpetuating
system. Those of you who are more robust and individual than others, will be
encouraged to leave and find ways of educating yourself - educating your own
judgment. Those that stay must remember, always and all the time, that they
are being moulded and patterned to fit into the narrow and particular needs
of this society.
~ Doris Lessing

Far from failing in its intended task, our educational system is in fact
succeeding magnificently because its aim is to keep the American people
thoughtless enough to go on supporting the system.

In 2008 America unnecessarily proved that they weren't prejudice. Now, in
2012 America needs to prove that they have the sense that God has given
them. Obama must go! let's make a change.
