[blparent] My son's teacher

ADD and ADHD are medical issues, not spiritual ones. They are chemical
imbalances in the brain, physical problems. They have nothing to do with
whether or not you believe in Jesus Christ. They may be overdiagnosed, but
they are very real disorders Discounting them is dangerous, and by not
keeping an open mind, you will be doing a great disservice to your child.
Not every parent, not even most parents, whose children are on medications
for ADD or ADHD are lazy, or unwilling or unable to discipline.

On a similar note, not every child, not even most children, who act out in
the classroom are gifted. The nature of the word gifted means that a child
is on an entirely different level than others of his age. If you ask if
your child is gifted, he probably isn't. He may be smart, he may not be
challenged enough, but that's probably not the reason he is acting out.
I've seen teachers get a bad rap way too many times because they're getting
blamed for every kid who can't sit still or keep his hands to himself. Give
it some thought.

Jo Elizabeth

"How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young,
compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of
the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of
these."--George Washington Carver, 1864-1943, American scientist
