Sheila,

I don't know how long ago this happened to you, and I know truancy laws
vary state to state and even district to district, but last year I
worked on a public relations campaign with a nonprofit group who works
with local schools to educate on truancy and the importance of attending
school. I had to research current truancy laws in Omaha and write a
briefing to submit to the nonprofit, so I became very familiar with our
truancy laws. At least here in Omaha, CPS would have no part of any
truancy issues even if initially reported to CPS. They would have turned
the complaint over to the department handling such affairs, and a
truancy officer would have gone to the home and inspected. I find it
interesting that where you live, CPS handled the entire thing, and sent
one of their case workers to check up on you rather than send an
official truancy officer.

Sincerely,
Bridgit Kuenning-Pollpeter

Hi, my husband and I are both blind and social services came out once
when our son was six. The person saw that the house was clean and mark
was in school. Someone reported that mark wasn't in school but in the
two weeks before this he had tonsils and adinnoids removed but couldn't
go back to school for a week and then he wound up with the flu for four
day. My mom was here for the surgery so we had verification. She said
she would leave us alone and she did.
