[blparent] The maid wants to go on strike!

Exactly. We want our kids to grow up and become responsible, productive
members of society, and we aren't going to make that happen by doing
everything for them and teaching them that it's okay for them not to
contribute to their world. We made a few baby steps this morning because I
had my hands full, and my daughter's frozen waffles popped up from the
toaster. I asked my stepson to butter them and give them to her since she
had to hurry and finish them up so she wouldn't be late for preschool. He
started to go into that poor long-suffering sigh routine I hate so much, and
I said to him, "Think about it. Is that really too much to ask?" He said
no, he guessed not, and when I got finished with what I was doing, I found
that he'd made my morning cup of coffee for me. I praised him to the skies,
although it was one of the more horrible cups of coffee I can remember
having because the coffee was strong enough to climb out of the cup all on
its own and shake hands with me.
