[blparent] training?

Your hospital should also have a weekly nursing support group for after the
baby is born and I would ask the hospital what services they have for having
a nurse come and visit you in your home to answer any questions for you and
see if you need any help with any baby related things once you're home.
Those labor and delivery classes at the hospital should be run by a
facilitator and not just a video on its own so I'd ask more about that.
Also, utilize the knowledge of the nurses when you are in the hospital. See
what nurses you especially like and really confide in them for info and
hands-on practicing with your baby. I had one nurse that was so awesome in
the hospital that she even showed me how to rethread the straps on my son's
car seat so that it's the right size for him because the manual didn't make
it clear. You can practice swottling, nursing, changing diapers and so much
more with your nurses. You're going to be fired up with hormones so expect
to get emotional and cry over almost nothing at all. It's not something to
be scared of but just to expect. Those hormones for me at least gave me a
feeling of love and happiness for my baby and about being a new mom that I
can't even explain.

I used to live in DeKalb, IL and know that the area should definitely have
some wonderful resources and classes for new parents. Just keep asking
around. Your local Department of Human Resources should know of some places
for you. There is a national program that a lot of parenting centers are
using called Parents as Teachers which is a really nice program. Look for
and ask about places that do this program and that should help lead you in
the right direction.

Hi,
Does anyone know if there are any places for hands on training before the
baby is born, like workshops classes etc. in the hospital I am going to see
my doctor, they have labor classes but they are all vedios.
Not sure what to expect once the baby is here because I almost have no
experience. my sister in law shared alot of details about labor but if
anyone have any other suggestions or advise of what to do and what to expect
please let me know. I am told I may have complecation due to plesenta not
working well.
hina.
