[blparent] Suggestions about products helpful when baby arrives

I enjoy drinking water at room temp so one of the best gifts I received was
the stack of cases to put right next to my recliner that I had set up as a
nursing station. It was not something I would have thought to get myself,
but I certainly did for the next baby. It was so nice to just grab a bottle
every time I nursed and keep myself hydrated.

Hello,

I agree that everyone has their opinion on what is useful or even an added
luxury.

If I know that someone wants or is registered for diapers and wipes, I
always purchase those wonderful items that can get costly. Some people
really appreciate them and others, I think, think, "Just diapers and wipes."
However, I appreciate any and all diapers and wipes I was given and that
wasn't many!

Instead, I received more clothes than my son could ever wear. I know
clothes are so cute to purchase for babies but most people buy them for the
new baby and parents end up with way too many so clothes are never on my
list when giving a baby a gift!

I used a Breast Friend Pillow and loved, loved, loved mine! I really
enjoyed the pocket where I could store my nipple butter and other handy
items.

I also enjoyed having sheet savers and the ultimate crib sheet. A sheet
saver fits with straps or ties to the railing of the crib. Another words,
it fits across the crib rather than long ways. So, when the baby is in the
crib and spits up or any other accident, it usually would end up on the
sheet saver, rather than, all over the sheet. As a result, just change the
sheet saver quickly, instead of, the entire crib bedding.

The ultimate crib sheet fits over the entire sheet of the crib and uses
snaps to hold in place around the railing/bars of the crib. So, when the
child is a little older and moves around too much for a sheet saver, this is
great for those spit up times or even when they urinate out their diaper.
So, in the middle of the night, you are again, not changing in entire crib
but just the ultimate crib sheet.

I never bought or was given a bottle warmer so I cannot say how useful it
is. My son would take his milk anyway he got it! Not picky in the least!

I also had a changing pad on a dresser because I did not wish to purchase
another piece of furniture. It worked great for us and once he got older,
that was no longer needed as I changed him on the floor.

I am a huge fan of books and music for my children. I began reading and
playing music for Cade before he made his appearance and to this day, he
loves, loves, loves to read and enjoys all types of music!

Cade also enjoyed his swing. I know not all children like it but we got our
money's worth out of it!

We were given an exersaucer and I am so glad we did not purchase one. We
used it more for containing him when he was smaller but he would not stay in
it for long periods and was very bored with the items on the station/unit.
Maybe, he would have enjoyed another unit with different playing options.

Actually, Cade was very content with his jumper. Again, we purchased this
from a gently used concinement store so I was pleased with the purchase and
found we got our money's worth from it. I will say though, he grew out of
it faster than the rest of the bigger ticket items so I am glad we did not
pay full price.

Now, that Cade is older, we purchased him a wagon new online from Amazon
when he was close to 18 months old. It has two seats with cup holders and
seat belts. It has been lots of fun for him and very useful in playing with
other kids in the neighborhood.

Another item we purchased new was a pool from Wal-Mart. I am not referring
to the hard hard plastic ones that probably hold, maybe, 18 inches of water
but a much bigger one that is probably three and a half feet tall. I think
it said it could fit 4 adults. We paid $25 at Wal-Mart for it and have used
it lots here in the South!

Ok, I am getting out of the baby items now so I guess it is time for me to
close this chapter. I probably could go on and on but I will close out for
now!

Kind Regards,

Hello,

I know quite frequently there are post here seeking tips and suggestions
for products that are handy after baby arrives, but in an attempt to be
comprehensive, I'm requesting, in a single post, any items, products,
devices, etc. you recommend to have once Baby P arrives. I'm mostly
looking for general items, but if you used, or know of, accessible ones
too, that's great.

I have six months until the "blessed event," but as I'm a planner and
list-oriented person, and I'm starting to nest (smile) I'm compiling
lists of things to get, or be prepared to get, once September rolls
around. There are the obvious items, onsies, bottles, receiving
blankets, diapers, crib, stroller, clothing, blah, blah, blah, but as I
don't want to over-look anything, I welcome all and any suggestions,
including the ones I just listed, grin.

Pertaining mostly to baby, but also if something pops in your head
that's beneficial for mommy too, that's great as well. I'd appreciate
the support and suggestions.

Sincerely,
Bridgit Kuenning-Pollpeter
