Dear Nikki,

Welcome back! I'm glad you have decided to rejoin this list.

As far as the upcoming appointments for your son, you are the ultimate
decision maker as to giving him medication. You can do careful research on
any medication that is prescribed and find out about benefits and side
effects. I have never heard that medications for ADHD contain marijuana
and/or cocaine. There is reliable medical information available in books,
journals, and online sites that provide health care information, so you can
look into this before you make any decisions.

Also, there are alternative treatments such as behavioral therapy. I know
that many families have been very happy with the results of a well-planned
and carefully executed behavior modification program.

The main thing is for you to feel that you're in control, that no one can
force you to accept a form of treatment that you feel is potentially harmful
to your son.

Debbie
