[blparent] questions about baby's well visit

I'm not sure about shopping around to find a doctor that happens to reflect
your particular opinions. How about one that will listen and give you the
truth as he or she sees it, whether it happens to agree with your opinions
or not?

I agree with Gabe entirely here and I would say that as long as you're not
anemic and your baby isn't coming up with anemia, then take the
pediatricians advise with a grain of salt. I remember a nurse not long ago
telling me how so many babies end up in the doctors and-or hospital each
year from iron poisoning. This is because parents are giving too much iron
in so many different ways. Iron is extremely important, but in moderation
like any other vitamin. It is true that breast fed babies end up getting a
little less iron than formula fed babies but they also deal with a lot less
bouts of constipation so it's a fine line between too much and not enough.
For what it's worth, I would keep my iron up while nursing especially, make
sure you're taking your prenatal while breast feeding so you are getting
that extra iron yourself and not worry about any extras for your baby unless
something concerning comes up. In a short time you'll begin feeding your
baby solids anyways and that's when you can put the fortified baby cereal in
your son's diet. Your pediatrician is someone who should be like an
extended part of the family so shopping around for a new one might not be a
bad idea.

you should always have a doctor you agree with, no matter if it is for you
or your child.if you feel that strongly about how your opinions differ I
would focus on switching doctor's rather than her not be a good fit for you.
also did you ask her to explain this request of you and what did she
explain. there is a time my doctor sets aside for my daughter's visit that
she allows me to ask questions. she doesn't want me to leave until I am
absolutely comfortable with everything she has told me or asked of me. and
yes, we have had 30 to 45 minute visits just clarifying things. I also have
this luxury with my own primary care phasician. I figure since they get paid
so much, they might as well work for it. :-) Gabe Vega - Sent from my Apple
