This is something I'll definitely be looking into because unless the price
is astronomical then it's more than worth it for my son to have a fun and
positive experience. I want him to look forward to getting a haircut. This
is the same reason I bring him to a Pediatrician instead of a Family
Practitioner or a Pediatric Dentist instead of a family dentist. I made the
mistake of bringing Dawson to a regular dentist since we just moved here to
San Diego and wanted to get the whole family done at once, and I got to tell
you that I will never do that again. The dentist was nice enough to him but
the office, waiting room and staff over-all was not set up to be kid
friendly and that really makes all the difference for a little one. Heck, I
want to go to a kid doctor or hair dresser myself because they're just more
fun! SMILING When does the fun stop for us? I think that us adults should
get a treasure chest of fun items to pick from when we're getting our teeth
clean as well but instead of stickers and bouncy balls we could have things
to choose from like star bucks coupons and product samples. SMILING

Erin

There are tons of kid haircut places. Toys R us has their own line, and many
others are springing up. They are cool with fun shaped chairs for the kids
like cars and plains, and they often have kids movies, fun smocks and all
kinds of things. Some will even take random pictures for the first cut, and
have clubs for birthdays and such.

Hi, Erin. I'm thinking my daughter was nearly two and a half when I took
her for her first haircut. It was an impulse decision because I was having
lunch with a friend who mentioned that she was going for a trim, and I asked
if Sarah and I could tag along. What I did to make the experience
comfortable for Sarah was to have her sit on my lap in the barber chair for
a minute and then stand next to me while I was having my hair trimmed. Then
I stood next to her when it was her turn in the chair. It was a little
difficult for her to sit still, but the trim didn't take long. I wouldn't
recommend giving your son a toy to play with because that might make him be
less still. Just stand next to him and hold his hand if you need to, and
explain what's going on. He'll be able to see the process in the mirror.
Then maybe give him a little treat afterward. Most places offer lollipops
and sunch, or you could bring something he especially likes to give him at
the end of the experience.

I've never seen a place that specializes in kids, but if you do find one,
the price is probably going to be higher than usual. I think anywhere you
go will work out, even if it's not billed as kid friendly. My only regret
was that I forgot to save the first lock of hair for Sarah's baby book.
