My experience mirrored Jo Elizabeth's. Even when I had a nipple
shield, which helped the small tube to stay in place, it still moved
and neither Azaan or I were happy. We would try fifteen or twenty
minutes to no great result. When the Lactation consultant was with me,
we had a better result, but she could not be with me the whole time.
I can tell you, Azaan is almost 6mo (will be on the 27th) and nursing
from the breast just didn't work for him. I really wanted it too, but
I eventually had to make a choice: what I wanted ... ... or what he
wanted. I could have continued to try a bit harder, but that just led
to frustration on his part. So, I pump and put it into the bottle: but
find all different ways of bonding.
And, you might be able to pump a bit, also. I don't know. If you are
going to adopt soon, you might save some breastmilk from your nursing
time with Dawson.
