Exactly.
It took my kid quite awhile to get the hand holding concept. Not sure why. I used the leash in very much the same way Peggy does.

I totally understand where you are coming from, especially when I have a
dog's leash in one hand and a child leash in the other!! When we are
walking around, Dylan is being taught to hold my hand. If we are sitting in
a place, doc office, at a pool party, etc., I put a leash on him, this way
he can move about a bit, I know where he is, and I can sit and converse with
people without hollering every two seconds to find out where he is. It also
prevents him from running around like a maniac, which a lot of kids do, and
I can't stand!! When he's being stubborn about holding my hand, the leash
does come out. And I will never unsubscribe from this list, every blind
person has things that work for them and things that don't. I use a leash
at times and take no offense that my son's treated like a dog!! There has
been a couple times I've hooked his leash to a retractible leash and then to
something to anchor him, this is how I do yard work in the front yard, along
a busy street. This way he can play, safely, and I can work. Is he a dog??
Nope! But it works and keeps him safe ... Oh I'll probably get a lot of
guff for chaining up my son, lol.

Hi. I didn't want to send this before because I wasn't sure how I could
do it respectfully. Honestly, my first thought was to say that I won't
treat my child like a dog. But I thought about it and now I can see the
potential use for a leash. As for me, I would only use it as the very
last resort. This is just my opinion and I'm not trying to criticize
anyone's parenting style.
I agree with Rebecca that freedom is earned and that Miles made a
mistake, but it's my opinion that if your child is kept on a leash at
all times, he or she won't have the chance to earn back your trust or
his or her freedom. Personally, I would try all the audio tips, and
teach Kahlan to answer or come when called. if she doesn't respond in
some way when she's called, then and only then would I use the leash
because she proves to me then that she can't be trusted yet. Until she
learns to answer or come, I think the bells and the child locator will
be our best friends.

good morning dialog. Either you can yawn and stretch and hit space on
the get out of bed button or tab to the snooze button. Remember if you
hit space on the cancel button, that means that you're not in your
right mind to make a decision at this current time. Cancel button.
Sorry, we can't accept this response at this time. Please boot me up
when you're really and truly awake. Good bye button.
