[blparent] food question

Hi,

There are some possible issues that would relate to blind parenting that I'd like to mention. Since I
don't know you, these possibilities may not apply.

When kids are learning to eat, they don't always know how much to put into their mouths at one time. It
might be a good idea to be certain that the child only has access to the amount of food that can be
swallowed at once before getting access to more food. Obviously this isn't a long term solution but is
part of the learning process. Second, one can't assume that when chewing has stopped that swallowing
has happened yet. Perhaps offering something to drink will help expose the possibility that food is
being held in the cheeks, for example. Gently putting pressure with one's hands on each cheek can help
determine if this might be happening. Third, some kids are going to experiment. Make certain that when
there is gagging that it isn't being caused by fingers getting too far back within the mouth.

Sorry if these are obvious suggestions.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
