[blparent] speaking of bumps on the face

Yes, your daughter won't forget about that door any-time soon and she'll
have her eye on it from a mile away for a while. It's interesting how they
design buildings. Some of the older buildings have features I'm so glad new
building codes don't permit while some new buildings have features that make
me wonder if the builders were sleeping when they came-up with the plans.
It would be nice if all those doors in schools especially were pocket
sliding doors so nothing like that could happen but then the kids would
probably be knocking them off the tracks all the time so it's a catch
twenty-two.
Have a great night.
Erin

Erin, all the doors in the school open into the classrooms, but not this
one. She is fully sighted and it was just a freak accident. I wanted to
call the school and complain, but Gab assured me that many have before and
the school hasn't done anything to rectify the issue.
My husband says, she now knows about the door and she should stay clear.

Sorry that happened to Gab and glad she's okay. They have to make doors
like that come out into the hall instead of into the room for fire code
reasons. Usually I've seen teachers prop those doors open so they're not
opening and closing at busy traffic times but maybe it wasn't a regular
classroom door and just a freak thing. I can't remember but does Gab have a
visual impairment and if so, was she using a cane at the time? Not accusing
her for the accident in any way but just trying to figure out how it hit her
the way it did. Sometimes those things come out of nowhere!

While G was walking to her locker at the end of the school day, someone
threw open a door and hit Gab directly under her right eye. She said she
stood there for a few seconds, not knowing exactly what happened and then
toppled over. One of the teachers who was just walking out of his class saw
her fall and immediately she burst into tears.
He got some help and had her science teacher escort her to the nurse. Thank
goodness it wasn't her eye or much worse than a really sore cheek.
Really, doors that open out into a busy hallway, who thought that was a good
idea?
Now the funny side of this, she was walking with some friends who were a few
steps in front of her, they missed the accident and kept on going. Not a
clue that Gab got hurt and oblivious to her wheare abouts. Glad they're not
my friends. They did call her later, after she walked home and asked her,
where she went?Sheesh!
